Why Blackout — and Who It's For

Most camping tents are translucent. Sunrise wakes you up at 5 AM whether you want it to or not. Naps during the day are basically impossible.

This tent solves that problem with a high-density blackout layer bonded to the interior surface. The result: the inside stays dark even when the sun is directly overhead.

Who actually buys a blackout tent:

  • Parents with young kids who nap during the day — naptime stops being a battle when the tent doesn't double as a lightbox
  • Shift workers — sleep on a daytime schedule without rigging up tarps or eye masks
  • Festival and event glampers — recover from late nights without 7 AM sun in your face
  • Photographers — a portable dark environment for film handling, long exposures, or astro setups
  • Anyone sensitive to early morning light — including older campers, light sleepers, and people coming off jet lag

The thermal side effect: the blackout layer also acts as an insulation barrier. Combined with the dark sun-reflective exterior treatment, the interior runs noticeably cooler than uncoated tents under direct midday sun. You get a darker tent and a cooler tent from the same coating.

Ventilation isn't compromised — 4 mesh windows + 4 ventilation windows still manage cross-flow. The tent is dark when you want it dark, not stuffy.

Built Heavier — and Why That Matters

This tent weighs 64 lbs. That's not light. It's heavier than most inflatable cabin tents in the same size class — and the weight is the point.

Three components carry that extra weight:

  • 420D Oxford outer fabric — thicker yarn, higher tear strength, longer service life under sustained UV exposure than thinner Oxford grades. Rip-stop weave to limit tear propagation if it does get caught on something.
  • 6 in / 15cm air columns — larger-diameter air beams flex less under wind load and recover shape faster after gusts. Smaller-diameter columns can deflect enough in heavy wind to flatten one side of the tent.
  • High-density blackout interior layer — adds material weight beyond a standard single-layer tent. The trade-off is a tent that stays dark and runs cooler, which most owners decide is worth the extra pounds.

The trade-off is honest: this isn't a tent you carry on your back. It's a tent you put in the truck once and leave standing for a week. Built for the job it's actually doing.

Built for All Four Seasons

The blackout cabin is engineered to keep working when the weather doesn't.

  • Winter: Flame-retardant chimney opening accepts standard wood-burning camping stove pipes. The included anti-fire mat is sized for stove placement inside the tent. The blackout layer adds an insulation barrier that helps retain interior heat.
  • Summer: Dedicated AC port (inlet + outlet) sized for most portable outdoor air conditioners. The dark sun-reflective exterior + blackout interior reduce heat buildup compared to uncoated tents — useful even when you're not running an AC.
  • Rain: 420D Oxford outer fabric is water-resistant. The waterproof ground tarp stops moisture from soaking up through the floor.
  • Wind: 12 heavy-duty pegs + 6 guy lines anchor the tent in exposed sites. The 15cm air columns flex under load and recover shape after gusts.

Stove and AC unit not included.

Shipping

Ships from our CA and NJ warehouses via FedEx. Estimated delivery: 3–7 business days after order processing.

  • Continental US only (lower 48 states)
  • No shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, PO boxes, or APO/FPO addresses
  • Tracking number provided once the order ships

Note: due to packed weight (64 lbs), this product ships as a single oversized parcel. A signature may be required at delivery.

Warranty & Returns

1-Year Warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, covering the air column system, seams, zippers, outer fabric, and blackout coating under normal use.

Warranty does not cover damage from improper setup, sharp objects, exposure to open flame outside the stove jack, sustained winds beyond rated tolerance, or normal wear from extended commercial use.

Returns: unused items in original packaging may be returned within 30 days of delivery. For non-defective returns, return shipping is the customer's responsibility. Defective items: contact us with photos or video and we'll arrange replacement or refund.

Before You Order

A few things worth knowing before this lands on your doorstep:

  • This tent is dark inside even with the doors open partway. That's the design intent. If you want a bright sunlit interior, this is not the right tent — consider the Yellow Cabin or Heavy-Duty Cabin in our lineup instead.
  • Tent peak height is 70.8 in / 1.8 m. Comfortable standing for most adults; users taller than 5 ft 11 in may need to slightly bow at the peak.
  • This is a basecamp tent, not a backpacking tent. Packed weight is 64 lbs — designed for vehicle-based camping, family trips, and extended-stay group setups, not foot-carry.
  • Stove and AC unit not included. The chimney opening accepts most standard wood-burning camping stove pipes; the AC port is sized for most portable outdoor air conditioners. Both sold separately.
  • Outer fabric is water-resistant. The included ground tarp is waterproof. For prolonged heavy rain in exposed sites, consider sourcing an additional rainfly separately.
  • Inflation needs the included high-pressure hand pump. Standard bike pumps will not seat properly on the air column valves.
  • Anchoring matters. All 12 pegs and 6 guy lines should be deployed in exposed sites.
