The Rainfly That Zips On — and Doubles Your Footprin
Most camping rainflies are tarps. They sit loose over the tent body, held in place by guy lines and tension. They shift in wind. They rely on you re-staking them every time the weather changes. They take time to put on and take off.
This one zips on.
What the zippered attachment buys you:
- Stays put in wind. A full-length zipper locks the fly to the tent body — no shifting, no flapping, no need to re-tension after every gust.
- Off in fair weather, on when it turns. Leave the fly off for maximum airflow through the skylights and ventilation panels. Zip it on when conditions change without re-staking the whole tent.
- Faster pack-down. One zipper instead of a tarp grommet hunt at 2 AM in the rain.
And the rainfly does double duty as a front awning. Pitched with the included support poles and guy lines, it extends out the full width of the tent's front face — adding approximately 86 ft² of covered outdoor area. That nearly doubles the tent's total covered footprint to around 166 ft².
The awning is open on three sides — it's a covered work zone, not a second sealed room. Useful for:
- Gear staging before a hunt
- A shaded work area for cleaning game
- Cooking under cover without venting steam into the sleeping space
- Boot and gear storage that stays dry but doesn't share air with you
- A sheltered spot to sit and watch the rain instead of zipping yourself into the tent
Same piece of fabric, two jobs: weather layer over the tent, full-width awning out front.
Cabin Structure With Standing Walls
The cabin silhouette gives near-vertical sidewalls — usable headroom extends toward the walls instead of tapering off like a dome. 86.6 in / 2.2 m peak height down the centerline gives full standing room for most adults.
What the floor plan supports:
- Group setup: Up to 3 full-size air mattresses side by side across the 118 × 98.4 in floor
- Single-operator basecamp: Cot + wood stove + gear setup with floor space left over
- 2 PVC skylights for natural light and overhead awareness
- 4 ventilation windows + mesh panels for cross-flow that doesn't fight the stove draft in winter
- Anti-mosquito door curtain — sealed entry without losing airflow
SBS double-sided zippers throughout — operable from inside or outside, useful when one hand is full and you're not unzipping the whole panel just to step out.
Built for All Four Seasons
The Tactical is built around the assumption that you'll run a stove inside it. The factory details reflect that.
- Winter: Factory-integrated stove jack with chimney flue opening on the roof — accepts standard wood-burning camping stove pipes. The included fireproof mat (3.2 ft × 3.2 ft) sits under the stove to protect the tent floor from heat and sparks. Most hot-tent setups sell this mat separately.
- Summer: Built-in AC vent for portable air conditioning or electrical pass-through. The 4 ventilation windows + 2 PVC skylights manage cross-flow without an AC.
- Rain: Thickened 420D Oxford outer fabric is water-repellent. The zippered rainfly adds an extended weather layer when conditions turn. The included 9.8 ft × 13.1 ft waterproof floor mat extends beyond the tent footprint, blocking ground moisture from soaking up.
- Wind: 10 ground pegs + reinforced wind rope webbing anchor the tent in exposed sites. 6 in / 15cm air columns flex under load instead of snapping like rigid poles.
The 4-season rating covers rain, sun, mild snow, and wind. For sustained heavy snow loads or extreme cold-weather expeditions, a heavier-build canvas wall tent is more appropriate — but for the cost and weight, the Tactical handles most hunting and overland conditions year-round. Stove and AC unit not included.
Who the Air Cabin Tactical Is For
The Air Cabin Tactical and the Air Cabin Medium share the same body, the same dimensions, and the same air column structure. Same tent, two configurations:
Air Cabin Tactical (this product) — pick this if you want:
- Tactical green colorway for hunting, overland, and lower-visibility setups
- Zippered rainfly with awning extension for field work and gear staging
- Reinforced wind rope webbing for exposed sites
- Single-operator basecamp setups with cot + stove + gear
- Heavier-duty accessory package (waterproof floor mat extends beyond tent)
Air Cabin Medium (separate product) — pick that if you want:
- Beige / family-friendly colorway for car camping and weekend trips
- Bright, photo-friendly interior for family use
- Standard rainfly setup without the tactical accessory upgrades
Same tent body, same dimensions, same standing height. Different jobs.
If you need a larger 6–8 or 8–10 person shelter, see our hexagonal domes (Forest Dome / Halo Dome), our A-frame tents (A-Frame Hunting Tent / Grand Air Cabin), or our 8–10 person cabin lineup.

Warranty & Returns
A few things worth knowing before this lands on your doorstep:
- This is a 4–6 person tent, not an 8–10 person basecamp. Sized for small hunting parties, single-operator basecamps, or 2–4 person hot-tent setups with stove and gear inside. If you need larger group capacity, see our 6–8 or 8–10 person products.
- The Tactical ships in green only. If you want the same tent in beige for family or glamping use, see our Air Cabin Medium (separate product).
- Tent peak height is 86.6 in / 2.2 m. Comfortable standing for most adults; users taller than 6 ft 2 in may need to slightly bow at the very edges where headroom drops.
- 50 lbs is light for a 4–6 person tactical tent, not light for foot-carry. Designed for vehicle-based use — overland setups, drive-up hunting camps, ATV-accessible sites. Not a backpacking tent.
- Stove and AC unit not included. The chimney flue opening accepts most standard wood-burning camping stove pipes; the AC vent is sized for portable units. Both sold separately. The fireproof mat for stove safety is included — that's typically a separate purchase elsewhere.
- The 4-season rating covers mild snow. For sustained heavy snow loads or extreme winter expeditions, a heavier canvas wall tent is more appropriate.
- Inflation needs the included hand pump. Standard bike pumps will not seat properly on the air column valves.
- Anchoring matters. All 10 pegs and the wind rope webbing should be deployed in exposed sites — especially when the rainfly is extended as an awning, since the awning adds wind sail area.
